Most pizza steels are larger in their dimensions and sized specifically for pizza making, which makes them heavier. The Misen Oven Steel is smaller, making it easier to move around. Two Misen Oven Steels side-by-side creates more combined surface area than any pizza steel currently on the market.

Does the Misen Oven Steel work with all types of cookware?
Yes. You can use the Misen Oven Steel with glass, ceramic, steel, aluminum, and any other form of oven-safe cookware. To better protect your glass and ceramic dishes, we recommend allowing them to come to room temperature before moving them from the fridge or freezer and onto a pre-heated steel.

Can I use the Misen Oven Steel on the stovetop as a griddle?
The Misen Oven Steel does not have a grease trap, so we do not recommend using it on the stovetop as a griddle. However, it would work great on the grill, where grease and juices can flow freely.

How do you clean the Misen Oven Steel?
Most of the time, your Misen Oven Steel remains in the oven, so unless you cook directly on it, it won’t need to be cleaned very often. But you can hand wash it in warm, soapy water once it’s completely cool. Burnt-on food can be scraped off. Always towel dry the steel immediately after washing, to prevent rust.

The Misen Oven Steel is made of carbon steel, and may rust if cleaned in the dishwasher. We recommend cleaning it in the sink by hand on the rare occasions when it needs cleaning.

Will the Misen Oven Steel come pre-seasoned?
No. You will have to apply a very thin layer of high smoke point oil, and bake your oven steel for about an hour to give it its first seasoning. That’s it! We’ll include instructions with more detail.

Your Oven Steel will take on new colors and marks as you cook on it. This is a natural result of regular use. Every oven steel is unique, and no matter how it appears, it’ll produce great results, and last a lifetime.

Can I leave this in the oven during the self-clean cycle? Just how heat proof is it?
Being made from A36 steel, it is extremely heat proof — as heat tolerant or more than the steel that your oven is made out of. But because the self-cleaning cycle in home ovens produces a lot of fine carbon ash that needs to be wiped down, we suggest removing the steels beforehand out of convenience. The self-cleaning cycle may also carbonize the steel’s seasoning, and require it to be reseasoned.

Will my oven require more time to preheat?
More thermal mass means more time for your oven to come up to temperature. We recommend giving your oven an additional 10 minutes of pre-heat time when using one steel, 15 minutes when using two, and 20 minutes when using four.

Unfortunately, we are only able to fulfill rewards for the Misen Oven Steel within all 50 states of the US. International fulfillment is not an option at this time. We hope to offer international shipping for this product by the time it is available on our website.

Is there a return policy?
While we have no problem replacing or fixing Misen Cookware products, we unfortunately do not offer refunds or returns on items received as Kickstarter rewards.
Support from our Kickstarter backers allows us to run production, gain feedback and design new products. Kickstarter products are referred to as “rewards” because they are not purchases in the traditional sense. They are rewards for supporting our business in a similar way that public television funds their service through pledges from viewers.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
